Tee Juice Fabric markers
If you have ever used fabric markers you were likely disappointed at the result. Traditional fabric markers are very limited in their use-- they are best for outlines or signatures. But Tee Juice markers are a completely different animal. They are juicy markers (as the name implies) that give you real coverage. You can actually fill in areas using these markers and not have it look scratchy. When you are all done, follow the instructions for heat-setting using an iron. These markers will work on both synthetic and natural fibers. Protect your work surface (or the back-side of the t-shirt) by putting a piece of cardboard between the layers of fabric. Available in 2 sizes. The fine tip is a bit thicker than the tip of a regular sharpie. Good for outlines and details. The broad tip is better for filling in areas with a nice round tip. These markers are not opaque. You can use them on darker colored fabrics (like a denim jacket) but your colors will be a bit more muted.
Fabric Crayons
How to use Fabric Crayons Draw heavily on a piece of paper. When finished, place the paper upside down on a piece of fabric. Place newspaper underneath the fabric. Set an iron to cotton and iron over your design, constantly moving, until your design can be seen through the paper. Keep in mind that any design you make will transfer backwards. So if you write words or letters you will have to make them backwards. For color permanency, choose 100% synthetic fabrics. These are great for kids who are used to using crayons. 8 crayons per package-- magenta, orange, yellow, green, violet, blue, burnt sienna and black. $3.15/package Fabricfun Pastels
These are a bit chunkier than the crayons, but will provide much brighter results. Unlike the crayons, you draw directly on the fabric with the pastels. Once your design is complete, iron according to the instructions on the package. These work best on 100% natural fibers (stay away from polyester or nylon).
