Need help choosing the correct dye? Check this out!

iDye-- The easiest dye to use!

For Cotton, rayon, linen, hemp, nylon or poly

idye
(Note: We also have carry Procion Mx dyes-- a more permanent alternative for natural fibers and Acid dyes-- an alternative for silk, wool or nylon

Dyeing fabric in a washing machine has never been easier. iDye comes in a packet that dissolves in water which means there is no handling of messy dye powders. Just throw the dye packet in, add salt (or vinegar depending on the fiber type) and run through the wash cycle. It is the ultimate easy way to get gorgeous color!

iDye comes in 38 vibrant colors—30 colors for 100% natural fabrics such as cotton, silk, rayon, wool, and linen, and 8 colors for polyesters and nylons.

Idye natural is a "direct dye." They are easy to use, but bleed more and lack the permanance of the Procion Mx dyes. Wash your finished garment in cold water with like colors. They would be perfect for something that you do not intend to wash often such as an artpiece or theater prop. The colors may start out brighter than the Procion dyes, but will fade more.

For some added help with the bleeding, you can use Retayne at the end of the process. Retayne is a color-fixative that can be used in the machine or in the basin by hand. More info about it can be found toward the bottom of this page

Other important info:

  • These dyes are transparent-- if your shirt is blue and you use yellow dye you will get a green shirt.
  • If you are trying to dye something that is a blend (for example 50% cotton and 50% polyester) your best bet is to go through the dyeing process twice. Use the Idye natural first to dye the cotton. And then repeat the process with the Idye Poly for the polyester. Do not do them at the same time.
  • We have colors shown as an approximate guide. Your final color will depend on how well the fabric takes the dye, and what color you started with. If you have a very particular color in mind and will be heartbroken if it isn't perfect, do a test first.
  • The iDye come in 14 gram packages and will dye 2 to 3 pounds of dry fabric. $3.79 per package
